The group was initially founded by a group of concerned citizens around the Council, and is now established as an independent voluntary sector organisation and is open to new members:

This page will be used to highlight issues and problems in the park, as well as successful collaborative work with the Council Parks Department.

The most important achievement was the retention of a Green Flag award from the Civic Trust from its initial presentation in 2007, right up to the present, to which the efforts of some of the Friends certainly contributed, and we are working to ensure that the honour is retained for the future:
